Date: Jan 7 - 18, 2008
Trip to: Whistler, British Columbia
Course Length: 2 weeks
This is skiing and snowboarding to the extreme. Whistler, British Columbia, is the home of the largest ski resort in North America. Six male and six female students, Jack and possibly two adult chaperones will be flying to Seattle on January 7th. Travel will be arranged by the Anchorage School District on Alaska Airlines. The Steller group will then take a five hour bus ride to Whistler, B.C., where they will spend the next 10 days.
Students and parents alike will have 9 or 10 days of lift tickets to ski/snowboard both Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. The highest ski lift goes up to an elevation of 7,500 feet; the lowest lift begins at an elevation of 2,200 feet. this is an elevation change of 5,300 feet! There are 33 ski lifts and 17 restaurants on the two mountains, and the two longest ski runs are over 7 miles long.
Evening meals will be eaten together in one of our suites. Students will be in teams that take turns preparing the evening meals. Evenings will be filled with time for story telling, drying out clothing, maintaining equipment, board games, resting, movie-watching and walking around Whistler village.
On January 18th, participants will return to Seattle by bus and then fly back to Anchorage. Bring your camera and daily journal. This is a trip of a lifetime.
To reserve the best accommodations, $1,000 will be due from each student and parent chaperone by September 26th. The total cost of this trip is between $1,500 and $1,800 per person. this amount covers air fare, food, lodging, lift tickets, and a round-trip bus ride between Seattle and Whistler. All students will be required to have a U.S. passport. Credit Count: This will be a quarter P.E. credit for a letter grade. Please contact Jack at: davis_john@asdk12.org for further details and meeting dates.
