Steller Volunteer Webmaster

As many of you know, our long-standing volunteer webmaster Karen Glavenic is recovering from a lengthy illness and unable to work. Denali Montessori Elementary School has developed ways to stay connected with Karen and ways to help and wanted to share these with the Steller community.

Ways to connect: Cards and kind words by email or on Caring Bridge would be wonderful, as Caring Bridge is a way to easily stay updated about Karen (Please note that donations on their website go to Caring Bridge, not to Karen).

Caring Bridge for Mobile:

Ways to help:  At our companion/feeder school Denali Montssori, students created Heart Pins for Karen and they have donated some of these pins to Steller.  These pins are available for anyone who wants one and are displayed in the Steller main office.  Donations are welcome and a collection jar is on the counter in the office.  Cash or checks to Karen Glavenic only please.  Thanks!

Steller Auction

Sunday, May 6th, 2012

The 2012 Steller Auction is only six months away and it’s time to start thinking about donations.  Over the summer, when you’re contemplating garage sales and house cleaning, consider donating those new or slightly used items to the 2012 Steller Auction.  Perhaps you’ll be traveling around our fair state or enjoying a summer fair, consider asking a business or vender for a donation.  The Steller Auction will be Saturday November 10th and it’s never too early to start collecting those great auction items.  We have solicitation letters and receipts available, just send an email to to request an electronic copy.

The next 9th grade class will be planning this coming fall’s auction.  To get us started, all the current 8th grade students and their parents are invited to attend our first 2012 Steller Auction planning meeting on Wednesday May 9th at 5:30PM in Ken’s room.  If you like working on auctions, even if you don’t have an 8th grade student, we encourage you to get involved.  Everyone is welcome to attend, and to stay for our Parent Group meeting at 6PM.

Frames Needed

Thursday, September 15th, 2011

Students in the Visual Arts Program are off to a great start this year and are producing some outstanding work, so much so that we need any and all to help us out so we can begin displaying this work in a well-represented fashion.   So, if you have frames, any kind of frames that you find or are not using, old frames, new frames, broken frames, clean frames, used frames, scraped frames, wooden frames, metal frames, frames from a garage sale, or any other frames, please help us out with a donation to the Art Department.  There are a variety of district art shows, in house art shows, and competitions that will be coming up and creatively making use of such frames will help represent these students¹ work in the manner it deserves.  Thank you so much for your help!

The Encaustics Intensive needs empty cleaned out tuna cans and/or cat food cans.  Please send the cans to Natalie.  We need as many as we can get.

Branches and Sticks Wanted:

Sunday, April 17th, 2011

The sculpture class will be building large-scale outdoor sculptures based on the work of the environmental installation artist, Andy Goldsworthy.  Since only so many branches will fit into the back of my Subaru, I am asking students and parents to please donate a load for our project.  Branches, sticks, rocks, leaves, and natural materials of all kinds would be graciously accepted.  Maybe this will be some good inspiration to take a walk in the woods, if the beautiful weather isn’t enough.  :-)   Please email me if you have questions.

Bean’s Cafe

Sunday, November 21st, 2010

Thursday night I was talking to a former Steller parent, Kathi Adkins, who is operations manager for Bean’s Cafe.  She said that there had been “zero” donations from the community for this year’s Thanksgiving Dinner.  Not one turkey, not one pie, or even stuffing had been dropped off for their annual community dinner on Thanksgiving.

So the message is simple:  If anyone can contribute a turkey, pie, stuffing, canned beans and canned corn, please take it to Bean’s Cafe.  Their hours are Monday – Friday from 7am – 5:30pm and Saturday and Sunday from 9am -5:30pm.
