U.S. News and World Report Chooses schools randomly to award their “Best High Schools in America awards. This year Steller has been honored to receive the Bronze medal in their second annual list of America’s Best High Schools.

America’s Best High Schools recognizes three categories of distinction: gold, silver and bronze.

Analysis is based on:

  • Standardized test performance
  • Proficiency rates of all students, including the less advantaged
  • Challenging college-ready curriculum

We are honored to be recognized by these organizations and will continue to strive for the gold.

Steller receives award from Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

leuk awdOn September 10, 2009 Steller received an award for its efforts in raising money for the Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society. This was Steller’s first time participating in the very worthy cause. Last year there was a very vigorous competition among advisory groups to see who could raise the most money.

There was a very exciting give-and-take between Shannon Herda and Michelle Short [both of whom are no longer at Steller]. In the end Michelle eked out a win. The school overall garnered a whopping
$2,889.00 dollars. The remarkable thing about this whole competition was that all the money was turned in as “pennies”, thus the name of the event, “Pennies for Patients”.

Steller won top honors for new schools and second overall for the most money raised by any school in
the District. Wendy Williams and Harlod Green were on hand to receive this well deserved award. At that meeting the gauntlet was thrown down to see who would be the winner in 2010.

Let’s Go Steller!
