Due to rollover from 1st semester visual arts classes, there are several classes that are experiencing overcrowding.  In an effort to have each class be a meaningful and worthwhile experience for each student, I’m sincerely asking for the following:

1.  10 new students to 6th hour art to move to 4th hour art or another 6th hour class

2.  Any high school students in 4th hour art to move to 5th hour Drawing/Design

(that would include Jordyn High, Kashtin Boberick, Natalie Curtiss, Marina Noble, Taelahna Bennett, Harrison Bivins, Haleigh Brannon, Ritchard Thomas)

I greatly appreciate your consideration.

Peter Alward, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, clinical psychologist and adjunct professor at UAA will be at Steller next week during lunchtime. Peter is the director of nursing at North Star Residential Treatment Center and has decades of experience working with adolescents.  He will talk casually to students in the common area about underage alcohol consumption and street drug use.

Peter had excellent rapport with youth and a wealth of knowledge to share. Bring your lunch that day so that you do not miss a single word from this fabulous speaker. Have your questions and concerns available for him. If you have a specific question you want asked anonymously, write the question on a piece of paper and put it in the yellow box with the question marks it in the front office. Peter will likely be here Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. I will let you know the exact day at the next AG meeting.  If you have any questions about this event, please see Nurse Anne

Food Drive reminder: our challenge is 1000 lbs of food in 9 days….

Monday, October 24th, 2011

A reminder for 9th grade parents to volunteer to help out with the Auction.  They should be receiving emails from  Please respond to these emails!  If they aren’t receiving emails, email the auction committee to add their email to the list.

Ribbons and pencils are being distributed today for Red RibbonWeek. Please try to remember to wear the ribbon all week as your pledge to not get involved in drugs. This pledge includes abstinence from illegal drugs as well as alcohol and tobacco products – at least until you are no longer a minor and are able to make a more mature choice. I want you to reflect on all the great muscians and actors who have died as a result of their involvement in drugs and the loss we have all felt as a result.

In another effort to keep Steller students safe, I have volunteers coming at lunchtime today to help me put reflectors on your backpack, the backpack straps, boots, shoes or jackets. Please take advantage of this opportunity. When it is dark reflectors can be seen on clothing up to 500 feet. A person who is wearing white can only be seen at 200 feet.

Just a reminder that auction baskets or donations are due on November 8 if your advisory group wants their submission to be considered for the prize.  The prize will be a cocoa and donut party served to the winning advisory group by the 9th graders.  Keep encouraging your students to bring in their donation items and to come to the auction.

Boys & Girls Clubs are the beneficiary this year for the proceeds from Trick or Treat town.  The sheer number of volunteers needed is staggering and we need your help.  Do you have any ability to share this message with individual or groups that might be willing to commit to volunteering at one or two sessions?

We need teens and adults – willing to dress up in costumes (that wont be scary for the little ones) to sit at “doors” and hand out candy to little ghosts and goblins.  The “doors” will be inside at the Alaska Communications garage (600 Telephone Street) so you will be warm and dry, helping Boys & Girls Clubs, and making little folks happy.
