Parent Group Meeting 10/24/07

NEXT PARENT GROUP MEETING: Nov. 28th @ 5:30
Principal’s Report: Karin Parker
• Thanks, from KP, to everyone involved w/ the Steller parent website.
• Danielle Morrison is our new secretary; please welcome her.
• Art day will be on Thursday afternoon, Friday morning – students will pick 6 to visit in afternoon and 2 to attend Friday morning.
• Coalition of Essential Schools in Denver coming up Nov. 8-11; 2 students, 3 staff attending. No parents applied.
• 4 trips planned for intensives and all are a go; 2 in winter and 2 in spring
• The staff steering committee for accreditation has been formed - Larry, Shannon, Jim, & Karin. At the all community meeting in March, we’ll work on mission statement. Parents and students will be asked to be involved in the 2-year process.
• Students want full day for registration; parents/staff don’t see the need to have a full day; ASD is getting new registration system which will help Steller – piloting new registration program in spring (Zangle)
Treasurer’s Report: Mary Tanner
$ 5, 849.57 in checking
$ 4, 755.00 (67 families donating)
$869.05 total from e-scrip; (410.00 in e-scrip just in the past month!) ( 77 people signed up, w/ just 14 new families) Rochelle (parent) is organizing a prize drawing for students who get family members to sign up on e-scrip.
Staff Report: Jim Rehman
• Registration – Just have an add/drop day at semester change for the classes that change quarterly.
• Staff suggests all community meeting agenda item could be to talk about 3rd/4th quarter registration.
• Parent suggestion - registration questionnaire attached to next newsletter; Jim R will work on this questionnaire, get it to KP, share it w/ staff, send it home via advisory groups, parents complete and return w/ their student
Old Business
• German exchange program; collaborative quilt (Tina Tomsen); students make a square which will turn into a quilt for the sister school; Tina/Shannon will share the idea @ the all-school meeting Nov.14th
New Business
Spirit wear (sweatshirts/hoodies) – need parent volunteers to help sell, place order; see Jean (teacher) or Bev Bradley (parent)
