The Lines
The Lines
The second hour of registration is devoted to the actual signing up of classes. This unfortunately involves standing in long lines, but it is the fairest system we have come up with for divvying up who gets to take what classes. Before you go in to register, look at your schedule and try to figure out which classes are going to fill up first - ask an older student or counselor to help you, since they have been at the school long enough to have a pretty good idea which lines will be the longest. Figure out which classes are most important to you, which of these classes are going to have lots of people wanting them, and then try to stand in those lines first.
The teachers will be sitting at tables set up around the auditorium. Their names should be up on the wall behind them, but if they aren’t there, you can just ask another student who is who, or where a certain teacher’s line is located.
When you get up to the front of the line, hand the teacher your form, and tell them which class it is you are taking from them. If there is room in the class, they will sign your schedule next to their name, and fill out your info (name, grade, counselor) on their list. If there isn’t room the teacher may ask if you want to be put on their wait-list. The teacher will tell you your chances of getting into the class. If they are pretty low you’ll need to find another class to fill that hour.
So You Couldn’t Get Into Your Class, Now What?
If there is no room left in the class you wanted to take, you need to figure out which other class to take that hour, and possibly change a few other classes in your schedule as well to make sure you have all your requirements. This is something you get used to doing after being at Steller a while, since some classes are in high demand and everyone can’t fit into one class. Once again, an older student is a great resource for figuring out how to change your schedule to fit in a different class. If you want to talk to your counselor don’t be shy about going to the front of the line, they are there for you first.
The Administration Line
After you have gotten signed up for all your classes, you have to stand in the administrator’s line. The principal or admin. assistant are there waiting to see your completed schedule form. They will check to see if you have any scheduling mistakes, and either approve your schedule, give it back to you to make changes, or take it away to smooth out the tangles with your counselor later. Don’t worry too much about this happening - you’re not in trouble.
