How can I be involved in the school?

Steller is pretty unique in that students outweigh the staff and parents on every governing board we have. In a very literal sense, this is YOUR school, and hopefully you will want to care for it.

Show Your Respect

Some simple ways to show your respect for Steller and all the other people at the schoool are to do a few common sense things which hopefully already come naturally to you:

Treat other students and staff as you wish to be treated. Yeah, yeah, you’ve heard that a million times, but that doesn’t discount its value.

Clean up after yourself. This means not leaving trash on the floor or a bottle of mustard in a class room for three weeks.

Don’t scuff up the walls of the building. Steller’s plain walls only get a new paint job every two years or so, so please don’t kick them, write on them, or run dirty hands all over them - others won’t want to look at that for two years, and at some point you’ll also get sick of seeing “LULU WUZ HERE.”

Don’t hurt the murals. Our murals are one of a kind, and some have very interesting history behind them. If they get scarred up it will be impossible to replace them.

If you see a spill or some trash that someone else left, please pick it up.

Participate in the Governing of Steller

Being a part of Steller also means participating in the school government whether or not you are a representative. You can do this by going to counseling groups, all-school meetings, all-community meetings, and so on. This is how you learn of things happening in the school. If there is a new policy being considered, you’ll want to put in your two cents.

Participate in Steller Activities

We have a couple of school-wide activity days a year, as well as the Steller Olympics and occasional trips to plays, etc. Activity days often involve packing all the students and staff up and traveling to some place to play games, talk and eat. These days are lots of fun, and there are many opportunities for you to help with their planning. If an activity day is planned and it doesn’t sound too interesting, come along anyway and initiate some games which will make it fun for you and your friends.

What is the best thing about the Steller community?

I like how you know everyone and can talk to anyone.
