What is Steller’s student government?

Steller’s student government, informally know as Op-Group (short for operational group) is a chance for students to directly affect change. The Op-Group meets once a week at lunch. Members (see the bylaws) discuss everything from registration to activity days, and whatever Op-Group says goes. You can appeal an Op-Group decision at an Advisory Board meeting, though.

A common question is: “Heaven forbid, there’s teachers that get to vote in Op-Group? Isn’t Steller supposed to be about students?” Well, the staff presence certainly doesn’t make the situation any less valid - in fact, it generally enhances the meeting. The interactions between students and staff, a hallmark of Steller, make it so that decisions will satisfy more people and that no one is left out of the loop.

Anyone is welcome at Op-Group meetings, but only counseling group reps should vote Don’t worry though - they should be representing you. If they’re not, talk to them - they’ll probably be receptive.
