What is Responsible Freedom?

Philosophy-speak:
RESPONSIBLE FREEDOM IS A SUPREME GOOD: PEOPLE, INCLUDING YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE A RIGHT TO THIS FREEDOM.

Many students come to Steller because they’ve heard that the can have more freedom. This is true but the other part of the picture, which many do not see at first, is that with freedom comes great responsibility. Every time you exercise your freedom of choice, you are taking responsiblity for the effects of that choice. Freedom and responsibility go hand in hand at Steller.

You have the freedom to…
Choose what classes to take.
You have the responsibility to…
Choose classes which interest and challenge you. It’s also up to you to make sure you are getting all the credits you need for graduation.

You have the freedom to…
Complain about anything under the sun.
You have the responsibility to…
Make suggestions for how they can be improved, and work toward improvement.

You have the right to…
Discuss with teachers what grades you deserve.
You have the responsibillity to…
Be honest with your teachers and yourself.

You have the right to….
Miss classes.
You have the responsibility to…
Know what classes you are missing, talk to your teachers beforehand, find out how, or if, you can make up the work you will be absent for.

You have the right to…
Make mistakes.
You have the responsibility to…
Learn from them.

Was there a time that you made a mistake and abused your privileges?

I recall skipping class once, and it was a horrible experience.
