{"id":17306,"date":"2018-04-10T20:40:01","date_gmt":"2018-04-11T05:40:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.stellerschool712.org\/main\/?p=17306"},"modified":"2018-04-10T20:40:01","modified_gmt":"2018-04-11T05:40:01","slug":"byodevice-committee-update-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stellerschool712.org\/main\/byodevice-committee-update-2\/","title":{"rendered":"BYODevice committee update"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>The committee work to develop policy norms, for device usage at school, continues.&nbsp; First conversations have begun for writing a contract that best supports education and community needs.&nbsp; (See overview below).<\/h4>\n<h4>Be part of the process!!<\/h4>\n<h4>Join us today (4-11-18), at noon in Marla&#8217;s room.<\/h4>\n<h4>~ What about kids who don&#8217;t care about the rules<\/h4>\n<h4>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ~ Can a contract make a difference<\/h4>\n<h4>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ~ Student arrest policy<\/h4>\n<h4>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ~ No one wants to be the &#8220;cop&#8221;<\/h4>\n<h4>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ~ Should be one of the data points for deselection&#8211;not the decider but, used along with other behavioral considerations.<\/h4>\n<h4>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ~ If deselection is a check list, appropriate phone usage could work for you or against you.<\/h4>\n<h4>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ~ FYI: cell phones are not a right for anyone at Steller<\/h4>\n<h4>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ~ Norm should include parents<\/h4>\n<h4>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ~ &#8220;If I&#8217;m agreeing not to answer a text from mom during class; mom should agree not to text me during class&#8221;<\/h4>\n<h4>~ We should worry about creating a norm that we can all agree to follow<\/h4>\n<h4>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ~ Let&#8217;s focus on creating the contract<\/h4>\n<h4>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ~ Don&#8217;t worry, at this stage about consequences.&nbsp; Let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s work on the norm of correct behavior<\/h4>\n<h4>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ~ It has to be fair &#8212; can&#8217;t interfere with the culture of Responsible Freedom<\/h4>\n<h4>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ~ To strengthen class rules for teachers that need support<\/h4>\n<h4>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ~ Find positive statements for behavior without specific DON&#8217;Ts<\/h4>\n<h4>~ A good start<\/h4>\n<h4>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ~ We only use our phones during class (in or out of the classroom) when teacher has given specific permission.<\/h4>\n<h4>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ~ In class, phone is used for only academic purposes<\/h4>\n<h4>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ~ We refrain from using our devices during passing period<\/h4>\n<h4>Next Week:&nbsp; Create contract &amp; plan a trial run before the end of the year.<\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The committee work to develop policy norms, for device usage at school, continues.&nbsp; First conversations have begun for writing a contract that best supports education and community needs.&nbsp; (See overview below).
