U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Connor (Ret.) has founded iCivics.org<\/em>, a fun, effective, and FREE web-based education project to teach students civics and inspire them to be active participants in our democracy.\u00c2\u00a0 Alaska\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Chief Justice Walter L. Carpeneti, state chair for iCivics, invites Alaskan educators to learn how to use the website\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s webquests, games, and lessons at a FREE Webinar on\u00c2\u00a0Thursday,<\/strong> January 27, 2011<\/strong>, or\u00c2\u00a0Tuesday, February 1, 2011<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Alaska Supreme Court will hear oral argument in actual cases before a student audience at West High School in Anchorage onThursday, February 24, 2011<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Anchorage<\/span> high school teachers are invited to sign up by\u00c2\u00a0Friday, January 14, 2011,<\/em> <\/strong>to bring their classes to the event, and teachers outside the Anchorage area are invited to follow the cases online and view a delayed broadcast of the proceedings. <\/span><\/p>\n

COLOR OF JUSTICE<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The 9th<\/sup> Annual Statewide\u00c2\u00a0Color of Justice <\/em>program will be held\u00c2\u00a0Wednesday-Friday, June 22-24, 2011,<\/strong> at the University of Alaska Anchorage and the Anchorage courthouses.\u00c2\u00a0 The free program, founded by the National Association of Women Judges, seeks to foster diversity in the legal profession and judiciary by encouraging young women and youth of color to pursue careers as judges.\u00c2\u00a0 Open to all Alaskan high school and college students interested in legal careers.<\/span><\/p>\n
