Steller Secondary School

The parent forum group is looking for nominations for next fall’s parent group meeting held monthly. The following positions need to be filled: 1 co-treasurer (to spend the year helping and learning from our current treasurer, Mary Tanner) and 2 co-secretaries to share in taking minutes and helping to get the information out to families from our meetings, and 2 co-chairmen to run the meetings and develop monthly agendas for the meetings.  Please send names of nominees to Karin Parker at parker_karin@asdk12.org or Cindy Ebelacker at cjames@ak.net.  Voting will take place  at the last parent meeting of the year on April 23rd so the newly elected people will be available to help with the fall registration and back to school picnic.

Karin Parker reported on various events taking place at Steller, including Open House, which had a new format, and the All Community meeting. She also reviewed progress events to come, including Spring Intensives, testing, and the Northwest Accreditation Process. The All Community meeting will be on March 26th, and will be facilitated by Karen Kirk. The goal will be to work on a Mission Statement that will be the first step in the Accreditation process. The Parent Group will be meeting Wednesday, February 27 at 5:30 pm.  All parents are encouraged to attend.

Karen P. Principal’s Report – Karen highlighted a 4th Q registration compromise that will allow us to gain a lost instruction day. This has been an on-going issue with teachers and parents being opposed by students who wanting the full day off for registration. She reported that it takes ~ 600 hrs for her and Julie to complete registration. So, the compromise proposed a half day schedule on Tue., Wed., Th. (Mon. and Fri. are regular schedules), with registration from 12:30 to 2:05. (more…)

Steller Parents and Guardians:

Have you made your annual contribution to the Steller Parent group? So far we have $4805 from 68 families. We need your help! We have close to 250 families! Remember it is tax deductible! Please help support the Steller community. Open up attached donation letter and see where the money has gone in the past. Also the budget for this year 2007/2008. Come to the meetings and you can help decide where the money goes!!!!
