Steller Parent Group Bylaws

Steller Parent Group Bylaws 2020-2021 were amended in October of 2020, and should be reviewed again in 2023 unless there are major changes before then. 


Steller Parent Group meets once a month in person and/or via Zoom.  We hear reports from the principal (Maria), a staff representative, and OpGroup to find out more about what is happening at school. This is followed by reports from the Steller Parent Group Treasurer and Chair. New business will include requests for funding from staff, students, parents or the SPG, as well as any other events and activities the SPG is leading or supporting. 

Attending these meetings is an important way to stay informed about what is happening at school, meet teachers and other parents, and have a say in decisions. 


All parents and guardians of Steller students are automatically members of the Steller Parent Group. Donations are not required for membership. Your participation, your voice, and your vote are all essential to the health and effectiveness of this community group. Students are always welcome to attend.  All members can bring a proposal, a funding request, or communicate ideas or concerns.


Steller Parent Group is a charitable organization to which contributions are tax-deductible. In 2021 the Steller Finance Committee (Chair, treasurer, member at large) created a DRAFT BUDGET.

In a typical year most money raised through Parent Group goes to four areas:

  • SPG Operational expenses
  • Steller Parent Group expenses (Welcome BBQ, Staff Appreciation etc)
  • School expenses ( Souper Steller, Ice Cream Social, Steller Olympics etc.)
  • Grants:
    • Steller Travel Intensives 
    • Intensives 
    • Program Support (Band trips, art supplies etc)
    • Passages & Special Projects

The DRAFT budget for 2021-2022 was presented at the SPG meeting on October 14. All community members were invited to provide feedback and vote yay or nay to approve the budget between October 18 and 20, 2021. 

The DRAFT budget for 2020-2021 was presented at the SPG meeting, and to Steller Staff, on October 13.  All community members are invited to provide feedback by emailing  The budget will be voted on and adopted at the SPG meeting on November 10.

Steller Parent Group meets in Ken’s room or via Zoom on the second Tuesday of each month for an hour and a half from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.  Watch for e-mail announcements via The Flash or watch our Facebook group for any updates to our schedule.  You are highly encouraged to come join in the discussion and participate in helping shape our school.
