There is NO SCHOOL, tomorrow, Wednesday, August 24th. Students are only here during their REGISTRATION TIME. When students arrive, they need to be in their advisor’s room until dismissed to register, then back in their advisor’s room until their ride arrives. This is not a time for students to socialize or hang out in the lounge/halls.

• 1:00pm-3:00pm 9th/10th

Students are only allowed in the building during their specific registration time and must leave campus as soon as they are completed with their schedule.

Applications are being accepted for 2016-17 Gifted Mentorship Program until Friday, September 9th, 2016 at 3pm. Information about the program, including a link to the application, can be found at: http://www.asdk12.org/giftedprogram/highschool/giftedmentorships/  See flyer HERE

Mentorships are available in Engineering, Nursing, and many other areas. Students must be a junior or senior and meet certain academic requirements to qualify for the program. Amber Jaasma, Gifted Mentorship Coordinator with ASD, will be visiting Steller the first half of lunch in library August 31st.  Students are also welcome to contact Ms. Jaasma directly with any questions about the program or application process, at 742.3841, cell 529.1479, or fax 742.4778.

Please donate shelf stable food supplies to the Nurse –

examples:

• snack on the run
• tuna salad and crackers
• cup of noodles
• instant mac n’ cheese
• clif bars

Please donate college ruled composition books to the office. Right now at Fred Meyers they are .49 cents each and you are limited to 10 per trip. Your student will need a couple for classes and we would really like to have some in the office for sale or to gift students that cannot afford to purchase them. Some of teachers that would like you to have composition books are: Ken, Leigh Anne, Brian and Mike

11th grade class trip update: We have plenty of tents, plenty of food and plenty of fun planned but we are at EXACTLY enough drivers and chaperones so…

Please go to the 11th grade web page (here) and make sure:

* you have, or will have all the appropriate forms and fees turned in by Monday morning.
* look at the itinerary–notice that your 11th grader should bring a favorite snack and a board game or card game to share with each other under the pavilion on Monday evening.
* look at the packing list. make sure you have everything. Adjustments may be made if your 11th grader does not intend to hike but the gold panning may or may not happen in the rain and cold. Choose wisely.
* look at the menu. If your 11th grader can not eat any of the food list, please send alternative items–we can adjust your fees accordingly.
* look at the volunteer list. these are the people I am counting on. If your name is there and you can’t actually do that job, text–don’t email–me at 907-360-9850 ASAP.
* look at the carpool list–same instructions as for the volunteer list.
* look at the map and directions page. Make sure you know where you are going and where we will be. If you have any concerns, text me at 907-360-9850

The 8th grade class is hoping to hike on the second day of school, Tuesday August 23rd, but we need more drivers to make this happen. We will be leaving school at 8:30, hiking along the Powerline Pass trail from Glen Alps, and returning to Steller at 12:30. If you can drive, please email Leigh Anne at bonney_leigh@asdk12.org with the number of students you can carry. You are welcome to hike with us or can just drive students there and pick them up at 12:00 from the parking lot. All 8th graders need to fill out a permission slip and bring it to school on Monday. On Tuesday students need to be dressed appropriate to hike and bring the following:

• Lunch and a snack

• Water

• Small backpack

• Rain coat

• Hiking/running shoes
