We Still Need Parent Volunteers to help with Sophomore Day lunch

Parents,
I still have not gotten volunteers to bring lunch to the BP Energy Center on Sophomore Day. I have the okay from Parent Group for reimbursement for pizza and salad, etc., but need someone to pick up the food and get it there. You are welcome to stay, have lunch and hear the presenters. It should be a very interesting day.  Attached is the schedule.

If I do not receive volunteers, I’m going to have to go down the list of sophomore and call parents. If you have that day off or if you can take even a couple of hours off to pick up the food from Costco and bring it to us, it sure would help me out. If you can help in anyway just let me know and we can work something out. I appreciate your help. Please make certain too that your sophomore has returned his/her consent form.
Thanks,
Nurse Anne

Call for Envirothon Team Members

Envirothon plant

Envirothon is a high-school environmental science competition held April 26 & 27, 2013. This year, the competition is in North Pole, Alaska with an option to visit Chena Hot Springs Resort. The mission of Alaska Envirothon is to introduce students to environmental careers, enhance students’ cooperative problem solving skills and promote stewardship of Alaska’s natural resources. The FFA hosts have offered a 4-H science team $1,000 to help cover travel costs! A bus will take students from Anchorage, Palmer, and other Southcentral communities up to the competition.

Hands-on environmental education programs and competition will focus on soils and land use, aquatic ecology, forestry and wildlife. Winning teams from each state advance to the North America Envirothon Competition in Bozeman, Montana for scholarships and prizes.

We are looking for highschoolers with:
-Love for the outdoors
– A desire to learn more about their natural environment (and awesome career paths associated with it)
– A willingness to help spend a $1000 grant with a team of like-minded students as you journey to North Pole on April 26 and 27

AG Group Notes for 4/1/13

AG Announcements – 4/01/13

There are fee waivers available for this spring’s intensives. You could get up to half your intensive paid for. Forms are in the office and are due April 5th.

Students interested in teaching a peer-taught class first semester of next year should present their proposals to the staff on Monday, April 22nd.

Sophomores, don’t forget to bring your signed consents for Sophomore Day. There is a wire basket on the counter in the office to place them in. There are also blank consent forms next to the basket in case you lost yours.

Travel Scholarship Deadline: Are you interested in traveling to Belize or San Diego during December 2013’s Intensive next year, but need a little financial help getting there? If so, Steller has a scholarship fund that can help you out. Scholarships are based on financial need, student involvement, and grade level, with financial need being the most important. Scholarships pay up to half of the cost of the Intensives and cover the last payments. Travel scholarship forms can be picked up from the teachers leading the trip or from the office and are due back to the office no later than Friday, April 26th. Students who are looking at traveling during next year’s Spring Intensive to Nicaragua or Europe will be able to apply for scholarships in the fall.

The Nicaragua travel intensive will meet this Wednesday at noon in Ken’s room and Mara Kimmel, who has done this trip recently will be our guest speaker. Come and hear her talk about her experience and what you can expect on this excellent travel/community service opportunity. All are invited. See you there. Ken
