Registration for Fall Classes
Dear Parents,
Beginning next fall Steller will be following the Anchorage School District’s calendar for student-led Parent / Teacher conferences. The first series of conferences will take place October 27-28. You will receive more information on this in the upcoming months.
During this transition year we will still set aside one day for optional conferences on May 19th. If you would like to set up a time, please call the office and Susan can access your child’s advisor’s calendar. The purpose of the year-end conference is to review the challenges and successes of the past year and to set goals for 2010-11.
The shift to October conferences will allow us to register our returning students for fall classes on May 20th, one of the dates traditionally reserved for Year-end Student Conferences. On the 20th students will meet with their Advisor to register for their first choice of classes.
The reporting times will be as follows:
Next year’s 12th graders:   8:30 – 10:00
Next year’s 11th/8th graders   10:00 – 12:00
Next year’s 9th and 10th Graders  1:00 – 3:00
Students unable to register will have another opportunity in the fall on August 12th from noon to 3pm. [Tentative]
Missing Books!!!
There are over 55 students currently on the missing books list. Please encourage your student to check the list posted just outside the office or come see Susan to get their name cleared off the list. Students will need to return the books or pay for a new book.
Seniors must have their names cleared prior to graduation.
Please send in all library/text books now so we can get them packed away for the summer.
Thank you!!
Steller Olympics
Steller Olympics will be held on Monday, May 17—rain or shine.
The students have already been divided into teams, and signed up for their events. Now it is time for parents to jump in and help. Troy needs six parents to help record times, fill out awards, and help with general organization the day of the event. You would need to be at Steller at 9:30 am and stay for most of the events—bonus! You get to partake of the fabulous all-school-luncheon.  Please contact Troy, fast_troy@asdk12.org , as soon as possible if you can help with this important task. Staff will be supervising the events, but we do need parent help to ensure the success of this fun field day.
Now about that all-school luncheon—each student on the team is responsible for bringing food to share as listed in the following table. REMEMBER this is according to teams, not Advisory Groups. All food should be brought to the staff lounge, as the kitchen is under construction. Keep in mind, refrigerator space is limited, so we will only have room for items containing, meat, cheese or mayonnaise. Drinks and dessert will be provided.
Parent Group meets Thursday, May 13, 7pm in Ken’s room
Agenda topics will include: nominations for officers, vacant Ad Board seats; budget; Back to School BBQ and All Community Meeting, Pre-registration & parent volunteer contract; Vote on Parent Group taking responsibility for auction next year.

Attention All Gardeners!
The Steller Ecological Society (aka the Steller GREENS garden club) is having a plant sale. It will be at Steller on May 19th from 10:00 to 2:00 (this is when conferences are held so come when youʼre done with your conference). We will be selling plants that the club has grown and the proceeds will go to buying more plants for the Peace Garden. Some plants that will be sold are: tomatoes, peppers, pumpkins and other vegetables, herbs, sunflowers, and other flowers, including geraniums. You can buy local, support Steller and grow your own food at the same time. Please note that all these plants have been grown organically with no pesticides or unnatural fertilizer.
For more information about the plant sale or the club, contact Maya Heubner or Amy Holonics at 562-3966.
