Choir Performance

Date:  Tuesday April 27th

Location:  Multi Purpose Room

Cost:  Free

All are welcome.  Come and support this wonderful singing group.  The choir will be singing some songs from the 60s, Taylor Swift, Kate Wolfe, Girly Man, and originals under the direction of Mary Schallert.  A concert is always better when there is an audience to support it.  We hope to see you there!

Reports

Ad Board: Staff presented a written proposal for an ASD credit by attending Ad Board. The credits could be earned in Student Government or Community Involvement. This will be optional.

Op Group: Op group is in the process of approving the photos of the murals by the Steller students. History of some of the murals was discovered while photographing the murals. One of the murals was done during an activity night years ago. This information sparked the idea to do a new mural during this years activity night.

No Treasures Report: No Principals Report

Staff: The staff is continuing to work on the Advisory Handbook. There was a survey completed by the students to find out what the students feel is or is not working in their Advisory Groups. The results will be completed in a week. A survey for the parents will be circulated by the Flash and then mailed back to the school or handed in to the office. The survey is in the process of being written.

Thinking about college?

If you are a junior who is thinking about college, it’s time to shift to a higher gear!  With the school year winding down, Steller parent Paula DeLaiarro is willing to meet with students and / or parents during intensives (during lunch or after school), before or after end of year conferences, evenings or weekends.  Paula has a Certificate in College Counseling from the UCLA program and is well-versed on college selection (including the University of Alaska system, WUE program, and out of state public and private colleges), majors, financial aid, scholarships, the application process, standardized testing, etc.  She does not charge Steller students for her services.

Steller Clean-Up Day

The Citywide Cleanup “Super Sweeper” Program on Saturday, May 1, 2010 is a great way to teach kids the importance of not littering and it’s also a lot of fun. Jointly coordinated by the Anchorage School District and the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, the Super Sweeper Program challenges elementary, middle, private and high schools to get together to clean trash around their school and in their neighborhood.

Calling all Steller students! Families are welcome to join our student volunteers to clean up Anchorage neighborhoods. Pick up your orange bags at Steller Secondary on Saturday, May 1, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Steller students will be entered to win an IPOD Shuffle!

Important Rules to Follow:

* Be SAFE!  Students must be with a buddy at all times. Younger children must be accompanied by an adult or guardian.
* Students should be instructed to remain in familiar areas.
* Student’s should never pick up sharp objects (broken glass, needles, etc).
* Stay away from busy streets and major highways. Children can cross streets only when an adult is with them.
* Orange trash bags may not be used for household trash, yard clippings or hazardous waste such as a car battery, or household cleaners.
* Return orange bags back to Steller for pick up at 2pm.

Dress appropriately.  Rain gear, waterproof shoes and hats are recommended.  Don’t forget gloves!!!

Wyotech Visit

Hi everyone,

On Tuesday April 27, Patrick Rose from Wyotech will visit Steller.
11:30-12:40.

WyoTech trains people in Automotive, Heavy Equipment, Marine, and Motorcycle
technology. They also have a course called Collision which you will have to
ask Patrick about.  They have campuses in Florida, Pennsylvania, Wyoming and
California.

Look for him at lunch in the hall outside the  library.
