STELLER STUDENTS READ BANNED BOOKS

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, STELLER NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT!!!

Come and support Steller students as they celebrate our freedom to read during the 27th annual celebration of Banned Books Week!

Join Steller students at Title Wave Books this Thursday, October 2 at 4:00 p.m., for the Banned Books Week Read-Out!  Steller students will individually and publicly read passages from their favorite banned and challenged books along with local celebrities.

The Steller community encourages everyone to come out and support our students participating in this event.  Steller is the only school participating, so this is our turn to shine and we would like a great turnout.  Last year several local celebrities also joined Steller students in reading selections from banned books.

Don’t miss this opportunity to show your school spirit and hear a book read publicly THAT THE MAN SAYS YOU CANNOT!!!!!

All Community Meeting

Next WEDNESDAY on October 1st Steller will host an All Community Meeting to which students, parents and staff are invited.  The focus of the evening will be two fold:  to elect new parents to the Advisory Board (Steller’s version of the PTSA) and to have a work session on Moving Steller Forward, a continuation of last year’s efforts to reformulate our Mission and Philosophy.
Your input is valued and desired at next Wednesday’s meeting.  We will spend an hour in small group sessions identifying key core values of our program and proposing clear, concise language with which to phrase them.
Please join us.  It promises to be fun and fruitful!

Northwest Accreditation Survey

Some basic information before you take the survey.

All information is confidential and no names are asked for or used when collecting this data. With this in mind we are asking for honest answers to the survey questions. This is a very important survey for it is the baseline for which the accreditation committee views the school’s progress.

The survey is self-explanatory and will save the last section of which you stopped at. If you are in the middle of the section and you select “Exit this Survey” link you will lose that information and will have to start that section over again. It only saves up to that section of the survey. Complete the section of the survey and then you may exit it and return at some other time.

Start and end the survey at the same computer. The survey registers the IP address number so if your start it at home and restart at work… you will have to start all over.

Any web browser will work that we know of… we could be wrong. Please let us know if your browser doesn’t work.

Take the survey only once.

The Northwest Accreditation Committee appreciates your time and commitment to the Steller program.

Paint the Plane-Alaska Airlines contest for students

Alaska Airlines is inviting  school-age children from throughout the state to enter its “Paint the Plane”  contest to create artwork to adorn an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-400 jet in  honor of the state’s 50th anniversary in 2009.

Students in grades K-12 from public, private and home schools in the state of Alaska can submit designs  that best capture the theme of “The Spirit of Alaska.”  A final selection panel comprised of artists and other dignitaries from throughout Alaska will select the winning design, which will be  revealed Jan. 3, 2009, the date commemorating Alaska ’s  statehood.

The student with the winning  design, as well as a finalist from each grade level, will receive a trip to  Disneyland Resort.  In all, 13 trips for four to Disneyland Resort —  including round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations and tickets to the park —  will be awarded.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the  state’s anniversary in such a dramatic way,” said Bill MacKay, Alaska Airlines’  senior vice president for the state of Alaska.  “We are incredibly proud that  our aircraft bear the state’s name, and this plane will no doubt have a very  special place in our hearts.”

A dedicated web site, www.PaintThePlane.com provides contest  rules, instructions and entry forms required to participate.  Entry forms  also will be available in community newspapers throughout the state, at schools  and at community libraries starting on Sunday, Aug.  24.

Steller Students Recognized

It has been my practice to always pass on compliments to persons in my school that deserve it. I intend to continue that practice with the Steller family of staff, students and parents.

Recently the National Merit Scholarship Corporation [NMSC] made me aware of three of Steller’s students are receiving a letter of commendation from NMSC .
The students are Christopher R., Logan D. and Justin W.
These students and their families should be justly proud of this accomplishment. We at Steller are extremely proud of these three students and the efforts they have exerted towards securing their own futures. We recognize that for those who are committed to greatness and that those who exhibit a personal dedication to their own futures will always make a positive difference.

We at Steller thank you for your conscientiousness and we thank those who have influenced you most- your parents, extended family members and your teachers.

Keep up the good work!

Principal of Steller Secondary
