The Alaska legislature is working hard to resolve the state’s fiscal crisis. There are no easy answers, but the $69M cut to base education funding currently introduced as part of the Senate’s operating bill is of concern for our public school community. This 5% cut is on top of the already planned loss of 120 Anchorage School District positions, which was based on flat funding. 

What does this mean at Steller? Less educational offerings for our students.

The Alaska Running Academy is offering a summer xc running camp designed to help athletes improve and ultimately get a head start on the upcoming fall xc season. (Although it is a xc running camp, we have had basketball, soccer, hockey, and volleyball players who wanted to improve on their mechanics and fitness, participate as well).

We meet 3 days per week (T,W,Th).  Two days on the east side of town at the Bartlett High School trails and one day on the south side on the Service High School trails.

The focus is on proper running mechanics, overall strength and flexibility, event-specific training and the acquisition of relevant race strategies, especially those related to the state meet course.

Registration form & ARA Flyer – Families are encouraged to mail in the registration form prior to the first day of camp.  Registration has already begun and there is limited space.

Alaska Eagles Basketball Camp… Come out and Have a blast learning and playing Basketball

Looking for something for your Kindergarten through 9th grade student to do during Summer Break (Monday–Friday) that will keep them active and engaged?

Alaska Eagles Basketball Camp is offering a 5-day Basketball Camp from May 29th-June 2nd. It is a great way to start out summer! Professional coaches, fun and upbeat camp to teach and develop players at their level.

Souper Steller has been CANCELLED for Friday April 7, 2017

Students participating in the Anchorage Tourist intensive need to pick up permission slips and pay fees. Permission slips need to be picked up from Jason. He is keeping track of who has picked theirs up. Fees need to be paid as soon as possible to Haley in the front office. See Jason or email him if you have any questions at collins_jason@asdk12.org

Students that are interested in going to Iceland with Jason and Leigh Anne in May 2018 will get a discount on their registration fees if they register before April 15. That is next Saturday. The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet will be performed on April 28 in the MPR at 7 pm by our peer taught drama class at Steller.   See what happens when Thing One and Thing Two meet Romeo and Juliet.  Expect sword fighting, romance, and more.   Put this on your calendar now, because it’s coming up soon.

A Medieval Fair with skits, minstrels, booths with games, a Medieval Souper Steller, and tournaments will be happening on May 18 from 10:30 to 1:30 on the Steller campus.  Many intensives will be able to participate to make this a school-wide event.  Community booths are welcome as well.  Right now we’re collecting backgammon sets.  If you have a backgammon game in your closet that wants a new home, donate it to Steller for the Medieval Fair intensive.
