2017 BBB Students of Integrity $10K Scholarship

BBB Foundation offers the Students of Integrity Scholarship to recognize high school juniors and seniors who personify and communicate ethics in the real world, as demonstrated through community service, personal integrity, and academic accomplishments. A scholarship of $10,000 will be award to the winning application submitted by students residing in Alaska, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Washington, or Western Wyoming.

The Naval Academy Summer Programs – Applications Open

Naval Academy Summer Seminar
The United States Naval Academy Summer Seminar is a fast-paced, six-day experience for high achievers who have completed their junior year in high school. Summer Seminar teaches students about life at the Naval Academy, where academics, athletics, and professional training play equally important roles in developing our nation’s leaders. Students who are interested in pursuing an appointment to one of the nation’s service academies and serving the country as an officer, are encouraged to apply for the Naval Academy’s Summer Seminar. Some scholarships are available for tuition and travel on a financial-need basis. Students may inquire after selection.

Summer STEM
USNA Summer STEM is designed to spark and cultivate interest in the many academic disciplines which make up science, technology, engineering and mathematics. A hands-on, design-based program, Naval Academy Summer STEM will challenge students to think scientifically, problem-solve creatively, and work cooperatively in teams. Open to rising 9th, 10th and 11th graders, Summer STEM is led by USNA faculty and currently enrolled midshipmen and is a great fit for students looking to broaden their understanding of STEM study and careers. Some scholarships are available for tuition and travel on a financial-need basis. Students may inquire after selection.

Seal of Biliteracy

Do you speak another language? Are you a junior or senior? If so, contact Ashley to earn a Seal of Biliteracy on your diploma. This is a national recognition and a prestigious addition to your credentials. Currently, ASD is able to certify biliteracy in the following languages: ASL, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Russian, and Spanish (additional languages tentative to be available by late spring 2017 include: Somali (Maxaa and Maymay), Tagalog, Vietnamese, and Yup’ik). Charles Schulz’s beloved comic comes to life in Clark Gesner’s classic musical, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. The whole gang is here: bossy Lucy is hopelessly in love with piano prodigy Schroeder who doesn’t give her the time of day, perfectionist Sally is still mocking blanket-toting Linus, Snoopy is in the doghouse, and “blockhead,” himself, Charlie Brown, is in rare form. An ongoing feud between the Capulets and the Montagues breaks out again on the streets of Verona. Both sides are warned by Prince Escalus that they must not disturb the peace again, on pain of death. Gifted Mentorship Newsletter/Website Info

Attention Sophomores and Juniors: Would you like to explore a career and earn credit? The Gifted Mentorship Program will begin accepting applications for the 2017-18 school year on March 1st, 2017. You must meet GPA, coursework, and standardized test score requirements to qualify. Students spend 45-60 hours with a mentor in their field of interest and complete various assignments, including a final project. Steller Students & Staff Perform at Anchorage Folk Festival

The Anchorage Folk Festival starts on Thursday, with lots of free workshops and main stage performances at UAA’s Wendy Williamson Auditorium.

Steller students and staff are participating, so don’t miss these shows:

  • Saturday, January 21 3:15 pm – Sam Engebretson (former Steller student) in Salmoneye

  • Sunday, January 22 4 pm and 4:45 pm – Harrison Sturm in Sturm Troupers and Bologna Sandwich

  • Thursday, January 26 7 pm – Svetlana in the Russian Folk Dance Group Sudarushka

  • Saturday, January 28 3 pm – Katie Scoggin and Mai Wen

  • Sunday, January 29 2 pm – Augustine Hardison and Harrison Sturm in the Sundance Kids
