Community members, businesses and parents are invited to visit any ASD school during the month of February to learn more about the community’s public schools. While schools welcome members of the public year-round, this coordinated effort provides parents and community members an opportunity to learn more about the many educational opportunities available. During the inaugural Visit Our Schools Month event in February 2014, ASD schools welcomed 1,607 visitors.

Sam R, 8th grader at Steller, has won local and regional contests in the Lions Club Peace Poster contest. His submission is now in the running for a national award.  Good luck, Sam!

The Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education (ACPE) is hosting a College Goal Alaska (CGA) webinar on Tuesday, Feb 10th , at 5:30pm.

College Goal Alaska is all about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, FAFSA, which is THE most important step to getting financial aid. Students and parents and other interested parties that would like help filling out the FAFSA are welcome.

Remember:  The FAFSA is needed for many types of aid, from grants to loans to work-study, from federal to state and some private sources. It’s even the application for the Alaska Performance Scholarship. We encourage you to attend a CGA event and to fill out a FAFSA regardless of your parents’ income.
