Title VI Indian Education is excited to hold its College Prep 2017 on December 9, 2017 at the ASD Education Center from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm. Students and parents will have the opportunity to:
Learn about available resources
Participate in talking circles
Learn the steps on how to write a scholarship essay
Begin the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Please bring your 2016 Federal Tax returns both for the students and parents.
The Title VI Native Advisory Committee is looking for two secondary students to serve on the committee. If you are interested, please contact Kerri Wood at 907-742-4445 or by email wood_kerri@asdk12.org. The next meeting will be held on January 18, 2018 at the ASD Education Center from 6:00-8:00 p.m. All parents and students are welcome to attend.
Go nominate a TEACHER or EDUCATIONAL ALLY at <http://www.bpteachers.com> by February 1, 2018. Who can be nominated?
Teachers: Nominations can be received for Alaska teachers from every community in the state. Teachers will be recognized in five regions: Anchorage, Fairbanks, Mat-Su Valley, Kenai Peninsula and outlying areas (everywhere else).
Educational Allies: You can nominate other individuals making a difference in your school for the Educational Allies Award, such as a principal, school nurse, custodian, teacher assistant, tutor, parent volunteer or others.

Come one come all to the Steller Secondary All Community Meeting, December 7th beginning at 6:00 pm. We will be showcasing student passages, the Steller orchestra will play and we’ll be taking questions and answers about how families can best support their students as they navigate Steller’s self-directed platform. Attention Steller High School Students and Parents,
There have been a few changes to the schedule for 2nd semester. Please review this new schedule and course descriptions when considering your plans for 2nd semester. Danielle’s 4th period Pursuing Wellness class has been changed to a World Literature class. Becky’s 1st and 4th periods have switched and Ken’s US History class is for 11-12 grades. Yearbook needs out of school activity pictures. Please contact Svetlana jackson_lana@asdk12.org. Please note that it is cheaper to purchase the Yearbook during this quarter. Current price is $60.00. Also, there is no custom personalization allowed by the publisher post December 31st deadline. If students wish to have a name/ special phrase on a cover, icons, or autograph section they must purchase the book this semester. Senior pages and portraits are due December 21, 2017.
On Wed., Dec. 6 at 7 pm, Alaska Public Media and Out North Contemporary Art House are co-hosting a community conversation facilitated by and featuring young people. It will focus on what young people think needs to happen to build strong, trusting, supportive communities. Although there will be a panel of guests, it’s a community conversation and the aim is to have most of the input and content come from the audience sharing experiences and asking questions.
