Steller Clean-Up Day
The Citywide Cleanup “Super Sweeper” Program on Saturday, May 1, 2010 is a great way to teach kids the importance of not littering and it’s also a lot of fun. Jointly coordinated by the Anchorage School District and the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, the Super Sweeper Program challenges elementary, middle, private and high schools to get together to clean trash around their school and in their neighborhood.
Calling all Steller students! Families are welcome to join our student volunteers to clean up Anchorage neighborhoods. Pick up your orange bags at Steller Secondary on Saturday, May 1, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Steller students will be entered to win an IPOD Shuffle!
Important Rules to Follow:
* Be SAFE! Students must be with a buddy at all times. Younger children must be accompanied by an adult or guardian.
* Students should be instructed to remain in familiar areas.
* Student’s should never pick up sharp objects (broken glass, needles, etc).
* Stay away from busy streets and major highways. Children can cross streets only when an adult is with them.
* Orange trash bags may not be used for household trash, yard clippings or hazardous waste such as a car battery, or household cleaners.
* Return orange bags back to Steller for pick up at 2pm.

Thank-you 9th grade class and Parent Volunteers
Many thanks to all the 9th graders and Parent Volunteers who helped in planning, organizing, setting-up, running, and cleaning up after the annual Steller Auction. You helped to earn over $10,000 for Steller technology, travel, and yearbook funds. (We don’t yet have a final tally, as monies are still coming in.) Thanks also to the many Steller families who donated or solicited donations for auction items, and those who contributed supplies, food, and decorations. As always, thanks to all the Advisory Groups for assembling the wonderfully varied, and valuable, AG Baskets—we couldn’t do it without you. We appreciate everyone who came, shopped, and purchased. A note of awe and appreciation to the 9th graders who lent their talents to provide the auction entertainment, create the program art, and supply technical production assistance. A special thanks to TBA’s Wayne Mitchell for acting as Auctioneer and MC
Changing the Future…A conversation about teen pregnancy and access to healthcare services
“Changing the Future…A conversation about teen pregnancy and access to healthcare services”  is happening on May 1st from 1-3 pm.  It is open to teens 14-18 (although if there is a teen who you know would do a fantastic job contributing, and they are slightly older, they are also encouraged to attend.)
The 2 hour meeting will consist in breaking the teens up into groups of 4-5, giving them discussion topics, paper and pens, and having them converse among themselves- and draw/write it all down. They will then all come back together and discuss what they talked about. It will be a good chance for them to meet other Anchorage teens. There will of course be time set aside for games and food!
The information gained will be used to help provide better programs for teens.
All participating teens will be given a $20 gift card.
Teens who are usually not represented and do not have a chance to have their voice heard are especially encouraged to attend.
If you know parenting teens, please let them know that childcare expenses will be reimbursed.
