    Steller Sophomore Day

WHAT: STELLER SOPHOMORE DAY – Permission Slips REQUIRED by 4/22/09! Click here to download.
WHEN: FRIDAY, APRIL 24, 2009; 8:30 AM to 2:05 PM
    WHERE: BP Energy Center

WHY: Each year, Steller conducts a health education program with a focus on HIV/AIDS, human sexuality, healthy relationships, and safety. This program is presented to the sophomore class as a full-day workshop, which features RARE-T peer educators and community guest speakers.

The purpose of this day is to present students with accurate and current information on HIV and AIDS. It includes a presentation from RARE-T about alcohol & drug use as it relates to HIV infection as well as STD/HIV information. Planned Parenthood will present on human anatomy & physiology, healthy relationships, teen sexuality issues, and have a condom demonstration. This year we are fortunate to receive a presentation from STAR regarding sexual assault and prevention.

We feel it is very important that every sophomore attend this event. Parent permission is required to attend this workshop. The students will be excused from their regular classes, if they attend the full day workshop.

Lunch will not be provided. Students will be expected to bring a “brown bag lunch,” and will not be permitted to leave for lunch due to time constraints on the speaker schedule. Hot water will be available on site; however, a microwave oven will not be available, so please plan accordingly. A morning snack and drink will be provided.

ASD BUS SERVICE WILL TRANSPORT ALL STUDENTS.
ALL STUDENTS MUST RIDE THE BUS.
THE BUS WILL DEPART STELLER PROMPTLY AT 8:30AM.
THE BUS WILL RETURN TO STELLER AT 2:05 PM.

Please call Nurse Wendy at 742-4963 if you have any questions or concerns regarding Sophomore Day.

    Senator Begich to Visit Steller

I proudly announce that Senator Begich is coming to speak with the Seller Student Body. Senator Begich will be here on April 6th at 10:00 a.m. All parents are more than welcome to attend this student presentation.

Parents, if you plan on attending this event please call 742-4960 and give your name [and any guests names] to Cathy. She will be starting a list of parents that are coming this in an attempt prevent breaking fire code with the number of people in our MPR. Also, if we have lots of parents I want to arrange to have some chairs set up in the MPR.

Again, please call Cathy at 742-4960 and give her you name if you plan attending the Mark Begich Event.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

Need parent help for Teacher’s lunch

The Early  Bird  Gets the Worm- Teacher Appreciation Lunch, Weds., April 30th

We are two parents of seventh graders in Troy’s Advisory Group who have volunteered to organize the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon this year. Wednesday, May 6 is National Teacher’s Day, and often the date in many schools for such events.  However, at Steller, this date falls in the first week of Intensives, and many members of our staff will be out of the building and unable to attend such an event.  Therefore, we have decided to take advantage of Steller’s notorious flexibility and hold our event a week earlier, on Wednesday, April 30—the early-bird gets the worm, so to speak.  We already have volunteers to supply decorations, tablecloths, two salads, desserts and beverages. We are seeking other seventh grade parents who will provide two entrees, bread, and a fruit plate/salad to serve approximately 25.  Please contact Rochelle Wilhelm at 562-2558 or email colliebarks@aol.com if you can help.

We would also encourage any Steller students or parents who had planned to sing notes or drop tokens of appreciation to staff during the official Teacher Week in May, to, instead, take advantage of this early-bird opportunity before teachers have flown, and students have left the nest of their regular classes.

    Thank-you
    Rochelle Wilhelm
