Learn More About King Tech High School

The King Career Center invites you to our next showcase event on Tuesday, January 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. Whether you’ve been to previous events, or if this is your first time, you are welcome and encouraged to attend. Come visit classes and speak with current students, alumni, and instructors about what doors to your future will open by attending our school. We will also have computer labs staffed to assist with lottery applications for next year’s grand opening of King Tech High School.

For planning purposes, we ask that you sign up for the showcase on our website at http://kcc.asdk12.org. We hope to see you here at 6 p.m. next Tuesday evening!

Thank you,

Lou Pondolfino
King Career Center Principal

2018 PEAKS State Assessment

The Performance Evaluation for Alaska’s Schools (PEAKS) is Alaska’s summative assessment administered to students in Grades 3-9 (English language arts and mathematics) and grades 4, 8 and 10 (science) each spring. The purpose of a large-scale, summative assessment is to provide parents and schools an overall picture of a student’s progress in meeting the Alaska standards at his/her grade level. The assessment is taken on the computer and is not timed, but each content area takes approximately 100-180 minutes.

Parents can locate resources for the PEAKS assessment, including directions for PEAKS Practice tests, called Online Tools Training and PEAKS Tutorials (under Frequently Asked Questions), on the ASD website at www.asdk12.org/PEAKS.

Parents can also help by ensuring their children are well rested, eat a nutritious breakfast, and are at school on time for the days of testing. Please avoid scheduling appointments on your child’s testing days.

March 26th through April 6  – All testing begins at 8:30 am.

Passage Share Tonight (Thursday 6p-7:30p)

Come and support the fine efforts of our Steller students by viewing their cool Passage Projects tonight (Thursday)  from 6:00 to 7:30 pm in the Multi-Purpose Room and throughout the school. All Passage students are expected to be presenting their handiwork and will be available to explain their process and answer questions. This is a great opportunity to have a positive evening experience with students who will really appreciate your presence. Everyone is invited. See you there!

Steller February Freeze Up Fundraiser

Hello Steller Community!  Have you heard about the Steller February Freeze Up?  This is a community event/fundraiser that is new to Steller this year and has received enthusiastic support from both Parent Group and OP Group who voted YES to make this happen.  The Steller February Freeze Up is a 5K run that is being held to fundraise for Intensives and Passages.  Right now we have $2500 invested in the run with fewer than 40 people signed up.  In order to just break even, we need 150 paying participants.  To register, go to https://skinnyraven.com/event/steller-february-freeze/.  Don’t forget to invite your friends and family members to come and support Steller too!  The event is scheduled for 10:00am February 3, 2018, at Abbot Loop Park.  After the run, enjoy a cozy fire, hot chocolate and the company of others.  Thanks for your support for Steller programs.  See you at the run!
