9th Grade Class Ventures to the Museum on Sept 21 Wed

fall-foilage-eagle-river-aug-22-2015The ninth grade class will be walking along the bike trail to the Anchorage Museum on Sept 21, Wednesday. The trip is happening so suddenly, because we want to see the View from Up Here exhibit which leaves the museum the first week of October. See HERE

We could use 7 chaperones from Steller if any adults wish to attend. Permission slip for ASD attached HERE and photography permission for the museum attached HERE.

Ninth graders currently in AK Studies may use this field trip for one of their cultural standards assignments.

Seven Reasons for a Trip to the Museum from Steller

  • Share an experience outside the building with friends

  • Enjoy a beautiful fall day and look for birds

  • Learn something new and unexpected

  • Study Alaska through activities

  • Leave the daily routine

  • Tell the rest of Steller about the day

Yes there is a free lunch!!

souper stellerSouper Steller this Friday! Need PARENT HELP! Marla’s advisory group chose tomato basil and everybody’s favorite chicken tortilla soup! For those who are new this year, Souper Steller is an all volunteer run program and an opportunity for every student and faculty member to a complimentary warm lunch together on Fridays! (Scheduled according to how much $ and parent/student help are signed up)

We ask students to please remember to bring a bowl in order to save a tree! And their special bonus is they don’t have to wait in line. A typical Souper Steller offers one vegetarian and one hearty meat soup along with fresh warm bread and fresh fruit. On rare occasions there are other treats.

Want to support??? PARENTS! We need more help, especially this Friday morning!!! Please email Alyse.galvin@gmail.com if you can pitch in an hour or two!!!! Or call 884-2299 (Alyse)

Students in Marla’s advisory are enthusiastic to volunteer with you! No experience necessary! If you would like to donate $treasure$ to this, please leave a check made out to Steller Parent Group (Soup in the memo line) at the front desk anytime – NOT at Souper Steller!

We will post future dates again, offering volunteer opportunities another day. With enough parent support signed up in advance, we will not have to cancel Souper Steller for any week we have scheduled.

WANT TO KNOW MENU BEFORE FRIDAYS? Keep up to date on everything Souper Steller by liking and checking their Facebook Page – Souper Steller

Message from Reed

September 13, 2016– Morning

This morning there was a fatal shooting a couple blocks north of the Valley of the Moon Park.  There was radio and news coverage of the event.  My first indicator was the police presence on all the street corners along Fireweed, with rifles in hand.

Chugach Optional and Central were closed and those students on location were bussed to West High for pickup. Steller and North Star stayed open for school.

Steller had a quick staff meeting. We determined that if the situation was still not resolved by a set time we planned to close the campus and provide lunch for our students and staff. The plan also was to place North Star volunteerism on hold. During this meeting news came out that the shooter was apprehended.

Our Steller day was thus started, the threat removed, volunteerism at North Star, and lunch will proceed as normal.

Students were informed of these events during first hour.

Safety and the self-directed pursuit of knowledge are on our minds daily, thank you all for your support.

If you have any question, concerns or comments, please give me a call 742-4900 or my email at:  Whitmore_reed@asdk12.org
