Parkour and Ninja Spring Break Bootcamp

Pacific Rim Athletics, Alaska’s 1st and only Parkour, Ninja Warrior, Calisthenics, Tumbling, Breakdancing, and Weight Training Gym, has been open for almost 1 full year! March 14th begins our 2016 Spring Break Bootcamp for folks of all ages, levels, and abilities who are interested in exploring several exciting sports and unlocking a whole new world of fitness. People will benefit greatly from these forms of exercise, whatever a person’s level of fitness is, as will athletes of all disciplines who will gain even greater body awareness, control, and functional strength through safe progressions of training geared toward each person’s individual level. Visiting artist needed for Spring Art Intensive

stained glassJean is looking for a visiting artist to share his/her expertise during the Spring Art Intensive. Her plan is to have students rotate between each 3-day workshops. She would like to make Stained Glass one of them, but doesn’t have expertise in this area. If you know someone who would be willing to share his/her talents, please email poulsen_jean@asdk12.org

ASD news

Anchorage School District posted the following Thursday Jan. 28:

Parents of 9th and 10th graders interested in learning more about West’s International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program are invited to one of two upcoming informational meetings: Wednesday, February 3, and/or Wednesday, March 2. The meetings will be in the West/Romig library, 5:30-6:30 pm.

Juniors and Seniors who wish to attend the Preview Day for UAA on Friday, February 5th need to pick up a Permission Form in the Counseling Office and return as soon as possible to Mrs. Dean.

Seniors who are interested in applying for any Scholarships with the University of Alaska System need to remember that the final deadline is February 15th.

Alaska Broadcasters Association is offering a scholarship to senior students who are interested in communication arts. The $2000.00 scholarship is awarded annually.

Seniors, the Better Business Bureau Foundation Student of Integrity Scholarship deadline for completed applications is February 14th. This is a $10,000.00 scholarship.

Alaska School Counselor Association is pleased to present the 2016 scholarships at a number of Alaska postsecondary schools including: Alaska Career College, AVTEC, Alaska Pacific University and University of Alaska System.

JBER Spouses’ Club is offering academic scholarships to graduating seniors. Applicants must be the son or daughter of an active duty or retired active duty member and must live in the Anchorage areas. A student living with a parent who has married a military member, who provides support, even if not adopted by the service member, is also eligible. Applicants must be a US citizen and must have at least a 3.0 GPA. Deadline is February 26th.

Nick Begich Scholarship Intern Fund scholarship is due February 15th.

The Alaska Native Corporation Scholarships are available for Native Students to apply. Be sure to contact Mrs. Thompson or Mrs. Dean for a copy of the Scholarships and Deadlines.

May 2017 Intensive Travel Opportunity – The Dominican Republic!

  • Do you want to learn and practice Spanish in an immersion setting?

  • Do you want to make a difference in the lives of children?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, come to a meeting on Monday at noon in Ashley’s room. You can find out just how you can make these wishes come true! This will be an informative meeting about a travel and service-learning opportunity to the Dominican Republic with the non-profit, Outreach 360.

We will be traveling during Spring 2017 intensives. Attached is some information about Outreach 360 and their volunteer program for high schoolers HERE.

2 more days until auction!

spectrum-auctionHi Steller Families, there are only a few more days until the big auction!  A great big Thank You to everyone who has donated auction items, and to the many volunteers who have been working behind the scenes in preparation for the big event.

Volunteers are always welcome!  Anyone who would like to volunteer for set up can stop in to Steller between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, and anyone who would like to volunteer to help with the auction itself can come in at 5:30 p.m.  Many hands make light work, and anyone wishing to stay to help tidy up will get the Junior Class’ eternal gratitude.

Doors open to the public at 6:00 p.m.

Bidding starts at 6:30 p.m.
