Treats and Chaperones Needed for the Halloween Dance

The Halloween Dance is next Friday (10/31/2014). Yearbook staff asks for a donation of certain items:

  • Halloween danceCupcakes
  • Cakes
  • Cookies
  • Soda (lots)
  • Otter Pops
  • Ice
  • Couple of big coolers (will be returned).

Also, Yearbook is in need of 10 chaperones total for the dance: 5 chaperones for each shift. First shift is 6:45 pm – 9 pm. Second shift is 8:45 pm – 11 pm.

Please, sign up in front office. Please, bring donations to the kitchen.

Hello Steller! If you did not have your picture taken at School Pictures Sept 26th or School Pictures Retakes Oct 14th, you are welcome to call Scott and Alicia at 907 726-1562 to set up a time to get your pictures done at their studio in Eagle River.

Take the Eagle River / Artillery Road Exit (after the Highland / Landfill Exit).  Stay in the right lane.

Turn LEFT on Fire House Lane (it will be your first left).

Fitzgerald Photography is the last home on the left.

The studio and office entrance is on the back side of the garage.

Advisory Group Announcements 10-27-14

ALL SCHOOL MEETING 8:45am today

High school students: There will be an informational meeting to learn about a new opportunity for seniors, Independent Semester, where students spend most of their school day working individually and with a small group of students. This is a semester long program where students do individual inquiries, group book studies, an individual Passage, and a group community service project. All students are welcome to come hear about the program this Wednesday at noon in Leigh Anne’s room, but Seniors please come to find out how to apply. We are hoping to have a group of students pilot the program this spring. Talk to Bob, Leigh Anne, Ashley, or Danelle if you have questions.

Applications 101 – do you want to know what college admissions and scholarship committees are really looking for on your applications ? This meeting will answer questions you may not have known to ask. Open to all grades…7th and 8th isn’t too early; Tuesday, November 4, 6:30 – 8:00, Steller New Computer Lab.

Krav Maga is a self-defense system developed for the military in Israel that consists of a wide combination of techniques sourced from boxing, Muay Thai, Wing Chun, Judo, Jiujitsu, wrestling, and grappling, along with realistic fight training.
Israeli Krav Maga Alaska (IKMA) will be putting on a two week intensive that will introduce students to this real world self defense system. To learn more about this opportunity please come to Philip’s classroom Wednesday at noon for a brief informational meeting. We will discuss the scope of the training, expectations, and the cost of the intensive. See you there.

Interested in knitting or crochet? Looking for a place to work on or get help on a current project? Or don’t know how knit at all? Then come to Jen’s room Wednesday at noon and join the fun. See Meghan Moore or Jen for more information.

Students enrolled in the Costa Rica intensive: Please stop by Ashley and Danielle’s room today at the start of lunch. Our evening meeting for parents is this Wednesday at 6pm.

Reminder, this Friday is Halloween (yippee). It should be mentioned that costumes should be school appropriate, not have include weapons of any kind (even fake ones) and no full-face masks.

Oregon Shakespeare Festival Travel Intensive students, the first payment is due by this Friday! Pay in the office. See Bob if you have any questions.

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon

The parents from Ashley/Danielle, Bob, and Danelle’s advisories are sponsoring.  If your student is in one of these advisories we still need food so please help.  Your teachers will love you!

Parents, for your convenience, here is a link to the consent form which you may print and complete before your student’s conference, but please do not drop off at the office or send in with your student. I would like to take a few moments to go over the form with you in person for accuracy.

AG Announcements – 10/20/14

Parking reminder: You cannot park within 15 feet of a fire hydrant. Students are getting ticketed when parking too close to the fire hydrant outside our building.

9th grade class meeting, noon tomorrow in Marla’s room.

Seniors: Please come to a class meeting on Tuesday at 12:00 in Leigh Anne’s room. We will be discussing the prom theme, sweatshirts, the craft fair and more.

Students: Are you crafty or have cool art projects you want to create and sell? Are you looking for a way to make some money for your holiday shopping? The seniors are hosting this year’s Steller arts and crafts fair on Saturday November 22nd. Steller students are able to purchase the use of a booth for $20 and then keep any profits you make from your sales. Rent a booth on your own, with a friend, or have your whole advisory create something to sell for a charity of your choice. Sign up forms are in the office. Talk to Leigh Anne, Cody, or Allison B. with questions.

Attention All Steller Knitters and Crocheters- on Wednesday, November 5th, the first meeting of the New Steller Knitting and Crochet Club will be held! Meeting is at noon in Jen’s room. Be there, even if you don’t know how to knit! Bring our own knitting needles. Talk to Megan Moore for more information.

The Anchorage Chamber of Commerce is piloting a program where students grades 6-12 can apply for a class that will culminate in the formation of their own personal business. The program is titled the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!), and applications are due Wednesday October 22. Soccer sign up for intramural games at lunch is now open to all who wish to play. Sign up next to JB’s office.

Run through for LPF will be on Oct. 29th at 2:15 in the gym. Must pass the run through to attend the test out on Nov. 1st.
