Monthly Staff Luncheons

Whereas:  Teachers sacrifice portions of their own lunch hour and classroom space everyday so that students can have a safe comfortable place to enjoy lunch . . .
Parent Group proposes re-instituting Monthly Staff Luncheons.  Luncheons will be provided by pairs of Advisory Groups working together, according to a pre-arranged calendar, one Wednesday each month throughout the school year.  A parent, yet to be named, will handle the overall organization with help from the Parent Liaisons of the scheduled Advisory Groups.  This will be a cooperative effort between parents and students—teachers should not have to make a single phone call, or reminder email.

The above proposal was passed last month, first by Parent Group, and then by students in Op Group.  We are seeking that “yet-to-be-named” parent described above to handle the overall organization. A good deal of the preliminary work is already completed.  Please contact Rochelle Wilhelm at 562-2558, or colliebarks@aol.com if you are interested in this fulfilling opportunity for a Parent volunteer.

Do you have your copy yet?

Due to the zealous efforts and hours of volunteer time on the part of Steller parent, Teresa Scott, the 2008-09 Steller Directory was delivered to Advisors last week, and distributed to students in Advisory Groups yesterday.  Check with your son or daughter for the whereabouts of your family’s copy of the Directory.  (Several copies were left on tables, desks, or in the lounge—orphan copies have been returned to the Office.)  Be sure to read the “Note from the Steller Directory Compiler” on page 4 of the Directory,  and thank Teresa when you see her.

9th Grade Parents

The 9th grade class is responsible for the Steller Annual Auction, usually held in March.  This event is our largest fundraiser for the school, raising needed money for technology and travel scholarships.  A letter has recently gone out to all 9th grade parents soliciting for help with planning and running the event.  Please return this completed letter to the school, to Natalie and Jen (this year’s Freshman class advisors).

eScrip enrollment

The Steller Community is enrolled in a very simple, yet powerful, fundraising program called eScrip.  Together with hundreds of merchant partners, eScrip has created a system that rewards customer loyalty by contributing a percentage of purchases to support your chosen groups. It’s simple and painless and only requires supporters to register once. You can designate up to three non-profit groups to receive your support, and change your designated beneficiaries at any time.  You simply register your Carr’s/Safeway club card and/or credit/debit card with eScrip, then shop as you normally do.  Local merchants participating in the program are: Safeway and OfficeMax.

Hundreds of other merchants are accessible through the eScrip online shopping mall—everything from Apple to Zales, Barnes & Noble to Nordstrom, even EBay can be reached through eScrip and earn dollars for Steller— Continue reading

Steller Auction Organizer Needed

Many, many thanks to Ingrid for heading up the Annual Auction the past few years.  Now she has retired from that postition and another lead parent organizer is needed.  The Auction is scheduled for March, and it is time to get started.  There is plenty of support with the 9th grade class as the primary helpers for this event.  Please contact Jen or Natalie to get the ball rolling.

Teacher and Administrator Evaluations

State regulations require that students, parents, community members and school staff are given the opportunity to provide information about teacher and administrator performance.  These regulations regarding certificated employees do not require such an opportunity for positions not requiring a certificate.

The two forms currently available are the Evaluation Input Form on Teachers and the Evaluation Input Form on Administrators (whether they are site administrators or central office administrators).

If you would like to complete an Evaluation Input Form you have three options:

*   Employees can complete the web based EIF anonymously by going to the District Connection at http://home.asdk12.org.  You will find links to either EIF (Teacher or Administrator) under the special announcements section.

*   Members of the public and employees not wishing to remain anonymous can complete a web based EIF by going to the ASD Online at www.asdk12.org.  Links to either EIF can be found on the Parents home page Parents link is www.asdk12.org/parents/.

*   Web based EIFs will be transmitted electronically by the Human Resources Department (Sarah Hotchkiss, Web Programs Specialist) to the appropriate

supervisor.

*   School sites will also have “hard copies” of the form for parents and employees who do not have access to a computer.  Each school will determine a location for the form (most likely main office).  Hard copies will be kept confidential and routed by the school to the immediate supervisor.

*   The Evaluation Input Forms are now available for you and will be posted in their web locations through May 1, 2009.
