Donations wanted for Steller Market

Do you need to clean out some space in your closet? We can help you find new homes for your gently used clothing!

The Steller market is a thrift/craft event on March 22nd 3:30-6:00pm to showcase student art and provide affordable clothing for things like dances or interviews.

We’re looking for donations of art and/or clothes from the Steller community (think things that will fit Steller students). Anything that doesn’t end up in the market will be donated to non-profits.

To Donate, bring your items to the drop off spots set up in the front office and in Allison’s room.

We are also looking for donations of arts and craft items to be sold at the Market.

For arts and crafts, there will be a survey where you can tell us about the piece and who made it. If you are worried about your donation being damaged, feel free to reach out to us (Jayla, Maia, Ash, Kai, or Allison) so we can collect it ourselves. We can’t wait to see your contributions.

Market will be Friday, March 22nd. 3:30 pm to 6:00pm

And please mark your calendars to attend the Steller Market and get your hands on great hand crafted pieces from our community, pick up some clothes for your teen, and support this wonderful student-led initiative.

Help with Student Recruitment NOW!

It’s new student recruitment season!

Maximizing new student enrollment is one of the most important things we can do to ensure Steller gets the staffing and resources we need to thrive.  No matter what grade your child is in, this will impact their experience.

We need volunteers to help:

  • at the Alternative School Fair on Saturday, February 10th (Begich Middle School, 12 to 4 pm)
  • at the Steller Ice Cream Social on Thursday, February 15th
  • by presenting at Parent Groups for our feeder schools – especially given the new addition of grade 6 to our school!

Changes to SPG Bylaws!

Steller Parent Group has been hard at work conducting a “comprehensive review” of its Bylaws, required every three years, as stated in the current SPG Bylaws.

As an automatic Member of SPG, all students currently enrolled at the School, their parents/guardians, and current Staff are important participants.

We are now at number 6 of our process: community review.

The final draft of the revised SPG Bylaws has been sent to the Principal, Staff, and Op Group.

The committee hopes that all Members will consider the proposed changes and attend the March SPG meeting which will be open for bylaws discussion.

In order to help you understand the process and the changes we have provided both a summary and the draft copy of the full bylaws (see attached)

We encourage all members of our community to take the time to read the changes carefully and encourage you to provide feedback:

  • directly to stellerparentgroup@gmail.com
  • at the Steller Parent Group Meeting on Tuesday, February 13th
  • at the Steller Parent Group Meeting on Tuesday, March 19.

Voting to approve the new bylaws will take place on Tuesday, March 19th.

Co-chair needed!

Steller Parent Group is actively recruiting for a co-chair to join Dee Dee Zobian this year and continue into the 2024/2025 school year.

This is an opportunity to learn about the position and what is involved from an experienced leader in a low pressure environment. Responsibilities are shared between co-chairs in a way to suit both volunteers.

We have an exciting year ahead of us with lots of interesting things going on including:

  • welcoming a new co-hort of 6th graders
  • implementing the Academy model of learning alongside ASD
  • 50th Anniversary Celebrations in September
  • continuing to grow Steller Parent Group to meet the needs of our community

Please consider reaching out to learn more about this exciting opportunity. We are happy to meet with you and tell you more about the commitment (its not as much as you might think), as well as all the benefits of volunteering in our community.

Welcome from Steller Parent Group!

Dear families,

Steller Parent Group wishes you a happy new year!

The Steller Parent Group is an integral part of the Steller Community and is made up of parents and guardians, students, and staff. You do not need to sign up or pay fees to be part of the Steller Parent group, and all members of our community are welcome to attend  meetings,  share ideas, bring proposals, join committees and vote on matters at hand.

The purpose of the SPG is to enrich the lives of Steller students through the financial support and leadership from all parents and guardians. We strive to promote parent and guardian involvement in school activities. All of this takes the hard work and dedication of our community members.
