Steller Sends Three Students to the All-State Band and Orchestra, Again!!

The results from the All-State Band and Orchestra were released last Friday.  Three students, who are currently enrolled in the Steller band, were accepted.  They are Sebastien Libbrecht on trumpet; Xavier Libbrecht on bassoon; and Griffin Lindsay on French horn. “These students went through very competitive auditions”, said Mr. Toba, the band director. “Sebastien has already made the All-State in his freshman and sophomore years, so this is his third year in row, which is accomplished by only a few students.”  “Xavier and Griffin are only freshmen, so they beat a lot of upperclass men in the auditions. Xavier and Griffin have a promising future ahead in high school band”, said, Mr. Toba.  In addition, Sebasiten has earned the right to participate in the All-State Orchestra wind section as well.  “These All-Staters are role models not only for our younger students, but also high school students”, said Mr. Toba.  “I can not be more proud of these All-Staters.”  The All-State Band and Orchestra will rehearse at the Chugiak High School, from Thursday, November 15th through Saturday, the 17th. The All-State Gala Concert will be on Saturday, November 17th at the West High School, at 6 p.m. Admission is 10 dollars for adults, 5 dollars for students.  Public is invited.

Are you ready for some quality basketball? Don’t snooze and register quick! This program fills up fast.CSA offers a fun and exciting indoor developmental basketball program for youth 6- 15 years old. This program Kicks off Nov. 12 and ends Dec. 12, 2018. We play 10 sessions on Monday & Wednesday evenings. That’s 10 sessions of basketball.   Our program is designed to be a developmental program to teach our kids how to play the game of basketball, with all the fun of a league atmosphere.   One-half of the hour long session is dedicated to skill building.  The other half is set up for game play (scrimmage).  As a lifetime teacher and coach I have designed this program to parallel the best model for learning.  Skill building followed by application.  Most of our training is technical skill building.  As the kids get older, we add in tactical aspects of the game.  We call it learning the “Why’s of the game.” We always include physical development with a series of exercises and stretches.  The 4th element of the complete athlete is the psychological domain.  We pride ourselves with an intentional emphasis on teaching good sportsmanship and values on and off of the court.   We’re not as interested in building world class basketball players as much as we are in building world class humans.  We pray a blessing over our young athletes as we begin.
See you on the court and don’t hesitate to call me if you have any questions.

DEA National Drug Take Back Campaign – Oct 27

Hello Steller Community,

It is time for DEA’s National Drug Take Back –
Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Most abused prescription drugs come from family and friends. You could be a drug dealer and not even now it.

  • Unused or expired prescription medications are a public safety issue, leading to accidental poisoning, overdose, and abuse.
  • Pharmaceutical drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs when taken without a prescription of a doctor’s supervision.
  • The non-medical use of prescription drugs ranks second only to marijuana as the most common form of drug abuse in America.
  • The majority of teenagers abusing prescription drugs get them from family and friends – and the home medicine cabinet.
  • Unused prescription drugs thrown in the trash can be retrieved and abused or illegally sold. Unused drugs that are flushed contaminate the water supply.
  • Take-back programs are the best way to dispose of old drugs. But if a program is not available:
    • Take the meds out of their bottles;
    • Mix them with something unappealing like used kitty litter or coffee grounds;
    • Seal them in a bag or disposable container, and throw that away.
  • For more information on prescription drug abuse, go to:

Be safe and not sorry, have a great week.
