Virtual Discussion for Teens: The Power of Connection

Last December Volunteers of America hosted a town hall event titled Wellbeing During Covid: Underage Alcohol Use and Prevention Strategies. We deemed the event a success after receiving positive feedback from the attendees and suggestions on what other types of virtual events would be beneficial to our community.

We’ve gathered some ideas regarding events needed for our community and are excited to announce that on April 28th, 2021 from 6:00pm – 7:30pm we will be hosting a virtual conversation titled Let’s Talk About It: The Power of Connection. This conversation will be teen focused and include teen led breakout groups focusing on healthy conversations regarding peer pressure, self-advocacy, and sober activities.

In preparation, we have collaborated with teen housing and treatment facilities such as the Covenant House Alaska, ARCH, and The Pathway Home to make this event accessible to teen clients in their care. Although this event is teen focused, we’d love for you to be in attendance or pass this information along to those who should be there (parents, teens, and community leaders).

To register for this event, visit voaak.org/letstalk and scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the registration box. ***Please note*** that any youth who pre-registers for the event will automatically be entered into a drawing to win a brand new IPAD!
